“Teaching” the AI

Specifically law was my upload because ChatGPT used to be great at discussion law/interpetinf law/ and discussion legal strategies until they got tight around the whole legal aspect. Thinking this as an uncensored and private AI thought it would be beneficial to upload books or law documents to assist with its more fine tuned legal understanding etc.

When I use the chat memory setting option to upload documents that would be helpful and provide more learning capabilities for the AI it seems to use it as its own thinking mechanism or something weird. I uploaded a document and the conversation turned into the AI talking as if it WAS the document. I would ask a specific question and it wouldn’t answer it at all and would pull direct text from the document as if it were saying it itself. I couldn’t even direct the conversation.

So I deleted it and now back to normal. I’m trying to help the AI to be more well rounded or expert level in a certain topic and thought uploading a book (like a Treatise on Commercial Law) just as an example). I was hoping it would help “train” the AI. The photo attached is where I uploaded the document.
